Hey Gaargi is named after the philosopher-sage Gārgī Vācaknavī, one of the most celebrated intellectuals of the Vedic tradition — and a model for the kind of jyotiṣa we practise.

01Who was Gārgī?

Gārgī Vācaknavī appears in the Bṛhadāraṇyaka Upaniṣad (3.6, 3.8) as a philosopher who challenged Yājñavalkya — arguably the most formidable thinker of the age — with probing questions about the ultimate nature of the self, space, and existence. She was not content with received answers; she pushed until she reached the limits of language and thought itself.

In a tradition that rarely names women scholars, Gārgī stands out: she is identified by her own intellectual lineage (gotra: Garga), her own debates, and her own conclusions. She represents the highest ideal of jyotiṣa enquiry — the fearless, rigorous question.

02Our approach to jyotiṣa

Hey Gaargi is built on Parāśarī jyotiṣa — the tradition codified in the Bṛhat Parāśara Horā Śāstra (BPHS), the foundational text of classical Vedic astrology. Every reading draws on:

• The Janma Kuṇḍalī (D-1 rāśi chart) computed from your precise birth coordinates and timezone
• Vimśottarī daśā — the 120-year planetary period system described in the BPHS
• Gochara (current transits) relative to your natal moon and lagna
• Praśna principles when the birth chart alone is insufficient
• Classical muhūrta texts for timing questions

03What we will not do

We do not make predictions that induce fear, dependency, or financial harm. We do not sell remedies (gems, yantras, pujas) through the platform. We do not claim to predict death, disease outcomes, or court verdicts with certainty.

Jyotiṣa, as Gārgī embodied, is a tool for understanding — not a mechanism for control. We use it in that spirit.

04Shastra-gated consultations

Following classical praśna tradition, we pause consultations on inauspicious tithis (Amāvāsyā, Kṛṣṇa Caturdaśī) and between sunset and Brahma-muhūrta. This is not superstition — it reflects a view of time as qualitative, not merely quantitative. The śāstra's advice is taken seriously here.
